Environments and Weather |

In Battlestations: Pacific we wanted to deliver a vast improvement on the overall look of the environments; make it more believable and add as much diversity as we could. I think we did a good job. Basically every environmental aspect was upgraded, and a lot of new visual improvements were also developed. We always wanted to include night missions, but in Midway we skipped them. Now for Pacific we have included night missions. Night missions and storms. There is a mission where it’s windy and overcast at night, and the dark ocean is lit only by gunfire and lightning. The waves set higher by the strong wind. It really gives the intense feeling of a night battle. Then we wanted more, to make a battle in a real storm, so we added heavy rain and bigger waves to another mission. But not only the waves were changed, but the whole water and ocean-system. It looks really nice now: shells deforming it, and it really ripples. One of the biggest visual upgrades is the transparent water. You can see the seabed with some wrecks in the shallow water, and submarines are also visible in periscope depth. Generally the ocean and underwater doesn’t feel like separated layers anymore. When you are cruising with submarines you’ll have to watch the seabed as you maneuver carefully in shallow waters and enjoy the surrounding flora. Not just the underwater landscapes are upgraded, but the terrain over sea level too. You will see many trees around, big landmasses, and a lot of interesting detail. Military bases, airfields, large ports, cities, bridges, trains, and more are out there to be discovered. And there’s a lot more life in this detail! Draw distance has also increased, so you will see the almost photo-realistic environment from a much greater distance. We also upgraded our atmosphere. The sun will blind you when you look into it, the HDR skyboxes will help to simulate the mechanism of the human eye, so you will need a short period of time to get accustomed to the changes of brilliance when looking towards different directions. The cloud system has also seen major improvements, clouds now really have volume. You can fly through them, have dogfights in them and they can even hide the enemy. This not only upgrades the multiplayer plane versus plane experience, but delivers a higher level of realism throughout. Janos Gaspar - Senior Designer |

is there control of the weaher ???
That would be cool. You could add to the ambiance of the game with the ability to customize weather.
its a poor trade ambaince for realism. i think dictating a weather styl like stormy or something would be nice but as long as it change throughout the gameplay
yah is the weather control in the options menu?
love the sound of this feature looks great can't wait to play the game to see it
night time battle under the stars
friggn beautiful. also what about real time battles, not like real time, but like the environment/weather changes, like day-night but in a small, but reasonable amt of time, like in GTA, the transition to night back to day.
how do you start playing the game
Mate this isn't an online game it's a game on a disc for x-box 360 and PC Windows games. It does have onlie multiplayer though.
Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. It is extremely helpful for me.

This'll be cool being able to dive out of the sun, blinding anybody who tries to shoot you down.
this does not have to do with the game environment, but if a ship is on fire or if its going to blow will there be sailors jumping off the ship. Because in one of the BSM videos in the game the Mission Vengeance at Luzon where you have to sink the Tone there are sailors that jump off.
that was a cutscene though
will there be a weather control to set it at or something?
Will the weather be able to hide your units so you can suprise your enemys?
the clouds look so much better
This is cool to see
will there be a video to see this ???
very cool
Not very cool REALLY COOL
any video to see it ?
no
YAY
Environments looks awesome, the graphics are great on this game.
I want a snowstorm in the pacific.
If you play in the night missions will the ships be on Black out(no lights) and if so will you be able to control it?
ok, the night mission is not to intense, the weather just needs to be overhauled even more, the waves need to be crazy like in the pic cause its not in the game in my mind. plus we need a weather control toggler for MP big time i like storms

i have a Q hwo do u combine ur ships to make one big fleet i havent figured that one out like u used to in BS-M
weathers great, I wish clouds would give you more cover
I am amazed as to how far Eidos has gone since Midway when it comes to environments. The seabed is amazing, and so realistic. I like searching for sunken ships when I'm underwater.
Only downside is that I think the clouds are much better detailed in Midway, and some maps have a jet exhaust in it (that didn't exist in the 40's).
It is one of the BSM videos in the game the Mission Vengeance at Luzon where you have to sink the Tones.....
Thanks for developing the Battlestations: Pacific with improved visual impact. The effort and the quality of work is really appreciable. Some of our including me are the great fans of that game.
